The Visitor Center exhibit traces the history of the Erie Canal and its impact on the growth of New York State and the nation.

Directions to the Visitor Center: Take exit 27, N.Y.S. Thruway, Amsterdam. Go west on route 5S about 4.5 miles. Turn right on Main Street, toward Fort Hunter, then turn left onto Railroad Street. Follow Railroad Street around to the right, when it becomes Schoharie Street. The Visitor Center, 129 Schoharie Street, is on the right.

Sponsored by the Friends of Schoharie Crossing, Stewart’s Shops, the Garden Bug, and the Fort Hunter Free Library. This program is made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts administrated by the Schoharie County Arts Council.
